Sometimes You Want or Need
a Thinking Partner

There are times when we really want or need someone to bounce things off—especially when we're dealing with an unexpected or complex health issue.

It would be a rare person today over thirty who hasn’t had some health issue that may or may not have resolved. Over 60% of all people in the US have been diagnosed with a chronic health issue and over 40% have two or more. Just because this is so common, doesn’t mean it’s easy.

Decisions have to be made and you may not be ready to make them yet. For lack of understanding or information. You can have a spouse but he or she doesn't really understand what you're dealing with, or finds the situation frightening.

You may not want to burden your adult children with your questions or worry.

You have friends but you’d prefer not to discuss something so personal within your social circle.

Maybe you used to have that person, the sister or friend you could call and say, “Hey, I don't know what to do. Can I bounce this off you?” But they aren’t there anymore or you’re no longer close. Which makes you feel worse.

You’re not looking for someone to tell you what to do.

You want someone who will listen.

Pay attention. Care. Let you think out loud. Engage with you. Ask questions to help you think things through enough to make a decision. Hopefully supply more knowledge they may have that you don’t. And tell you the truth if you ask what they think.

I'm not your sister or your best friend. But I can be a pretty good stand-in.

I’m Someone Who Knows Something About Complicated Health

I bring nearly 30 years of lived experience with complex health issues, my work as a restorative health practitioner, and the mind of a systems thinker to the conversation.

You don't have to arrive with everything organized. You can tell me you feel dreadful and don't know what to do next or at all. You can tell me what you’ve been advised to do that your uncertain about. You can bring up the things that don't add up to you, the questions you didn't get answered, or the possibilities you've been turning over in your head.

Difficult health conversations don't frighten me.

I'll listen. I'll pay attention. We'll talk through what you know, what you're wondering about, and brainstorm options.

If you're simply wondering what else you can do—we can talk about non-medical, restorative approaches that may be out there.

And if you ask me what I think, I'll tell you. I don’t know everything. But I do know a lot. And I have experienced a lot.

I won't always have the perfect answer or sometimes any answer at all. But if I don’t, I'll tell you that too.

I'm not a doctor. I don't diagnose or treat medical conditions, and I'm not allowed to tell you to disregard medical advice.

I will offer and educate on any alternative possibilities where they exist.

But you make your own decisions. As a thinking partner, I would be there to bounce ideas off.
